GUIDELINES ON HOW TO BECOME A PHILARM MEMBER
1. GENERAL GUIDELINES
Membership to the Association is open to all individuals and institutions/agencies/organizations who are involved in research or who are performing managerial functions in the research system in addition to any of the following:
1.1 Individuals and institutions/organizations of all nations who are actually engaged in promoting the objectives of the Association and;
1.2 Individuals who have conducted/completed/managed at least two or more researches.
2. GUIDELINES FOR INDIVIDUAL AND INSTITUTIONAL MEMBERSHIP
2.1 INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP:
2.1.1 Eligibility: Individual memberships are open to professionals who are actively engaged in research management or related fields, such as research administrators, project managers, grants officers, and other research support staff.
2.1.2 Benefits: As an individual member, you will have access to a network of research management professionals, opportunities for professional development and training, access to resources and best practices, and the ability to contribute to the advancement of research management as a field.
2.1.3 Responsibilities: Individual members are expected to uphold the ethical standards and values of PHILARM. This includes actively participating in the Association’s activities, sharing knowledge and expertise, and adhering to the Association’s code of conduct and professional standards.
2.1.4 Privileges: Individual members can participate in the activities of the Association and shall have the right to vote and hold office.
2.1.5 Application Process: To become an individual member, you will need to submit an application form, along with any required documentation and membership fees. Your application will be reviewed by the Regional Chapter’s Membership Committee and approved application should be confirmed by the National PHILARM Board of Directors.
2.2 INSTITUTIONAL MEMBERSHIP:
2.2.1 Eligibility: Institutional memberships are open to research institutions, universities, research centers, and other organizations involved in research management and support.
2.2.2 Benefits: As an institutional member, the organization will gain visibility and recognition within the research management community. They will have access to a network of professionals, opportunities for collaboration and partnerships, and resources to enhance research management practices within your organization. Joining PHILARM can provide the institution with valuable opportunities to connect with research management professionals, stay updated on industry trends, access resources and best practices, and contribute to the advancement of research management as a field.
2.2.3 Responsibilities: Institutional members are expected to actively engage with PHILARM and contribute to the advancement of research management. This includes supporting the Association’s initiatives, participating in events and conferences, and promoting the professional development of research management staff within the organization.
2.2.4 Privileges: Institutional members can participate in the activities of the Association and shall be entitled to 1 vote.
2.2.5 Application Process: To become an institutional member, the institution will need to submit an application form, along with any required documentation and the applicable membership fees. The Association's Membership Committee will review the application and assess its suitability, and the approved Institutional Membership Application will be confirmed by the PHILARM National Board of Directors.
3. GUIDELINES FOR LIFETIME AND REGULAR MEMBERSHIP:
3.1 LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP:
3.1.1 Eligibility: Lifetime membership is typically offered to individuals who are active member of PHILARM for at least one year and who have made significant contributions to the field of research management or have demonstrated long-term commitment and support to the Association.
3.1.2 Fee: Lifetime membership often requires a one-time payment of a higher fee compared to regular membership. This fee is usually set at a level that ensures long-term financial support for the Association.
3.1.3 Benefits: Lifetime members may enjoy various benefits such as lifetime access to Association resources, exclusive networking opportunities, recognition for their contributions, and voting rights in Association matters.
3.1.4 Privileges: Lifetime members can participate in the activities of the Association and shall have the right to vote and hold office.
3.1.5 Duration: Lifetime membership is typically valid for the lifetime of the member, meaning they do not need to renew their membership annually.
3.2 REGULAR MEMBERSHIP:
3.2.1 Eligibility: Regular membership is open to individuals who meet the criteria set by the Association, which may include being involved in research management or related fields.
3.2.2 Fee: Regular membership usually requires an annual or periodic payment of a membership fee.
3.2.3 Benefits: Regular members may enjoy benefits such as access to Association resources, participation in events and conferences, networking opportunities, professional development opportunities, and voting rights in Association matters.
3.2.4 Privileges: Regular members can participate in the activities of the Association and shall have the right to vote and hold office.
3.2.5 Duration: Regular membership is typically valid for a specific period, usually one year. Members need to renew their membership annually or as per the Association's renewal cycle.
4. GUIDELINES FOR HONORARY MEMBERSHIP:
4.1 Eligibility: An Honorary Member is an individual who is recognized and honored for their exceptional contributions and achievements in a particular field or organization. They are typically granted honorary membership as a way to acknowledge their significant impact and to show appreciation for their valuable contributions. Honorary members often serve as role models and mentors, inspiring others through their accomplishments and expertise. Their involvement and support bring prestige and recognition to the organization, and their continued support to the Association serves as a testament to their ongoing commitment and dedication.

5. REQUIREMENTS FOR MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION
Those who wish to join PHILARM should submit the following to the PHILARM Regional Chapter President and attention to the Regional Membership Committee (MemCom) Chairperson nearest to the applicant:
5.1 Filled-up membership application form signed by the applicant and endorsed and signed by a PHILARM member (PHILARM Form No. 1 – Individual Membership; PHILARM Form No. 3 - Institutional Membership)
5.2 Separate file of recent 2” X 2” photo in jpeg/bitmap/png format and in plain/clear background for the issuance of membership ID (individual membership)
5.3 Curriculum vitae (individual membership); To include significant involvement in research or RDE/technology management and trainings/seminar attended related to RDE and technology management (individual membership)
5.4 Institutional/Agency/Organizational Profile (institutional membership)
5.5 Transaction receipt/deposit slip/proof of payment representing the payment of membership fee and initial annual due.
6. PROCESSING MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS
6.1 Receiving of applications (all applications shall be submitted to the Regional Chapter addressed to the Chapter President and attention to the Regional MemCom Chairperson)
6.2 Summarization into listing by Regional MemCom
6.3 Screening of applicants by the Regional MemCom
6.4 Preparation of list of qualified applicants by the Regional MemCom
6.5 Presentation to the Regional Chapter Officers for deliberation as basis for approval or disapproval.
6.6 Submission of list of approved applications together with the complete documents by the Regional MemCom to the National MemCom for presentation and confirmation by the National Board of Directors during regular BOD meeting
6.7 Informing applicants about the status of application; newly accepted members will be notified through a letter of acceptance via email.
6.8 To complete the membership application process, membership fee and initial annual due listed below whichever applicable should be settled upon submission of the application form.
6.9 Fees and Dues
6.9.1 Fees for payable upon submission of membership application
Individual Membership fee: Php 1,000
Individual Annual due: Php 500
Institutional Membership fee: Php 5,000
Institutional Annual due: Php 1,000
Individual Lifetime Membership Fee: Php 5,000
6.9.2 On Lifetime Membership Application: For individual lifetime membership, applicant should be an active member for at least one year and settle the single-payment of lifetime membership fee of Php 5,000 after approval of application and already paid their regular membership fee and the initial annual due.
6.10 On Membership Renewal: Members are eligible to apply for lifetime membership and settle the corresponding fee after completing one year of active membership in the Association.
7. MODE OF PAYMENT
As part of the new requirements and policy for membership application, the applicant is advised to deposit the membership fee and the initial annual due to PHILARM Landbank accounts. Cash payment or payment thru check is accepted payable to the Philippine Association of Research Managers, Inc. or PHILARM or direct bank deposit/transfer to the following accounts:

An e-copy of the acceptance letter, official receipt (OR), membership certificate and ID will be sent to the email provided after the payment verification and approval confirmation by the National Board. Original copy of the OR will be forwarded thru the Regional Chapters.
